Built for mission-driven organizations

Specialized accounting for nonprofits — clean books, 501(c)(3) formation, Form 990 filings, and consulting on grants and governance.

Common questions

How much does it cost to start a 501(c)(3)?

The IRS filing fee is $275 for Form 1023-EZ (most small organizations) or $600 for the full Form 1023, plus your state's incorporation fee. Our formation package — starting at $2,000 — handles the whole process: incorporation, bylaws, the IRS application, and state registrations.

How long does it take to get 501(c)(3) status?

With Form 1023-EZ, the IRS typically responds in a few weeks. The full Form 1023 commonly takes three to six months, sometimes longer. The biggest factor is getting the application right the first time — rejections and follow-up questions add months.

Which Form 990 does our nonprofit file?

It depends on size: Form 990-N (the e-postcard) if gross receipts are $50,000 or less, Form 990-EZ under $200,000 in receipts and $500,000 in assets, and the full Form 990 above that. Private foundations file Form 990-PF regardless of size.

When is Form 990 due?

The 15th day of the fifth month after your fiscal year ends — May 15 for calendar-year organizations. A six-month extension is available for the 990 and 990-EZ (not the 990-N) by filing Form 8868 before the deadline.

What happens if we don't file our 990?

Penalties accrue for every day the return is late — and if an organization misses three consecutive years, the IRS automatically revokes its tax-exempt status, which means donations stop being deductible. If you're behind, don't panic: we regularly catch organizations up and get status reinstated.
